I've only had one dog. He was given to my family by another family as a "Christmas present" when I was about six, and I'm not sure where they got him, but he was hardly a purebred. (Some kind of Golden Retriever mix, possibly a bit of Collie.) Probably they knew someone who had some puppies they needed to find homes for.
My dad used to buy ice cream from the Mennonites while he was in the Peace Corps in Belize. I've never had much to do with the Amish. I'm pretty disappointed about their attitudes toward animals, I must say.

They still exist. Kindle Kitten came from one of those places. I paid $30 for her, last November. But they never sell pups. Ever!
