Actually a 7" Kobo Libra will better read PDFs. I have one, that's how I know. The DX and DXG are also too heavy to read a novel for a long time.

The DX is quite low resolution and greyer than the DXG. It's uniquely obsolete!

A screen is likely more expensive than most cheaper eink readers and much inferior.

The CPU is slow for PDFs. The RAM is too little on the DX and DXG to have better firmware to support azw3/KF8 instead of the old mobi KF7.

It's really not worth repairing. I have the DXG which is basically the same hardware with a more reflective (less grey) screen. I only use it occasionally now for testing.

It's also very heavy. Your model will also be needing a new battery.
