I never really looked into it, but I don't recall seeing fatattr calls (unlike the rm one @j.p.s reminded me of ;p).
But what might be happening is something playing with the actual filesystem instead of the fuse proxy, or vice-versa. Do try blocking both /mnt/us/whatever and /mnt/base-us/whatever, see if that changes anything.
That, or they're playing with the attributes in C ;o).
