books have dissappeared from library but still there

Hello,
we had a power crash the other night in the storm and the computer was entering files into the library.
Now, when I open calibre, I see my newly entered files (since reboot after the storm crash) however I do not see all the previously entered ones (years worth).
when I physically navigate into the library folder, the old and new files are all there.
If I mess around in there I'm afraid to lose all my work. I did go to the library icon and calibre says that the library is already located at the right location.
