I use calibre. I do not purchase any e-books from amazon. Never plan on connecting it to the internet / using any sort of utility other than reading books. Not interested in much else in terms of features.

Nook 3 has the reddest light and can be had on ebay cheap. 6" or 7.8". Has button. If you root it you can install koreader, which is good for pdf. Need to be technically savvy to setup.

Onyx next reddest light. Has all sizes. Is Android and feature rich. Best for handling pdf. Most expensive.

Kobo next most orange light and has all sizes. Forma has buttons. Can install koreader for pdf. Probably the easiest to get.
