1/3 through Bova's Mars and it really is a MUCH better book than Powersat. Both the science and the politcking are more more interesting, and better handled. The only constant little niggle is the way the Navajo/Anglo main character is constantly using Spanish expressions like "muchas gracias" and "adiós" when talking to the Brazilian scientist he's smitten with. He (and the author) should be smarter than that
