You do not need calibre is you decide to only use koreader. But you will need to install koreader, and then access it and create folders, and copy over your books. Your best bet might be an Android app, if your chromebook can run them (I know many can). But it could be fiddly. I suggest you ask in the koreader forum. They might know how to do it. But personally I found Chromebooks to be very difficult to use if I tried to make it do anything beyond its intended features (i.e from inside a broswer). And you don't seem to be very technical.
