That definitely points to battery problems. With that, I would try steps 3 and 4 immediately after plugging it in. The Kobo devices will normally wake or start up a short period of time after plugging them in. If you wait to long, you will need to do the power off.

I have also sent you a link to the image for a Kobo Aura H2O. A few people have had luck getting an Aura running by writing the image to an SD card and the putting it in the external SD card slot and starting the device. If it works, it at least proves the device can work. And you can possibly get it working without the card once it is running. But, I don't know those steps.
