I can understand, having worked in a small company by myself :-) Preparing for your own booth at an exhibition is quite an effort and usually you don't get that much attraction... as usually smaller companies are grouped together at an "outside area". Then it is still very expensive - for me the return-on-investment was never really there :-) So the best thing you can do, is to join a bigger company and just have a sub-booth there, it seems that is was iRex was doing :-)
The most important thing at such events are anyway the meetings, and for that you don't need any booth, you just need a good conference-room!
So my tipps for all small companies:
- Don't get your own booth, try to hook-up with some bigger companies to help you out (e.g. partner, etc) -> you will have more visibility and they usually do all the administrative work (design, setup, etc)
- Get a good conference-room (e.g. hotel, restaurant - best would be near the conference-center of course :-)
- Meet, Meet and Meet all the people out there :-)
And it seems, that is what iRex did?
