I liked the book and the two sequels. I thought it was a clever variation on the traditional vampire story. I liked the finale probably most of all (but not so much more that I would recommend it to anyone who only gave the first book 3 stars ), it wrapped up the story very neatly. I also recently read and liked A Dirty Job, which uses the same setting (even some overlap in small characters like the Emperor), although I have not read the sequel yet.

I can easily understand how Moore might not appeal to some readers. I like his writing in general but a few of his books have stretched my patience.
