It doesn't take much movement to adjust the brightness. Try using your finger near the vertical middle of the screen in the left margin area, and just move your fingertip up or down an inch or so. Don't cram your finger against the bezel; indeed, you can leave a tiny (a few millimeters) gap between the left side of your fingertip and the bezel. Don't press hard; just glide your fingertip up and down.
