When I did the feature update to the latest version, my USB disks came back along with the kobo. Very frustrating.

That does sometimes work, for sure. Best way is to go into Device Manager and delete USB drivers, then reboot. Windows will auto-install the latest or the un-broken versions in your FileRepository.
