You missed something in your post, so I fixed it for you.

That is a personal thing. Each of the ereaders I have I have used for a few days without a case before putting them in. I am always of two minds about this. Yes, they protect the device, but, they make them a lot heavier and the front gets in the way when I am reading. The lightness and thinness of the devices feels good to me.

And the covers do get in the way. It has to be folded back, with two flaps for the Glo HD and the Clara HD. And for the latter, one of the flaps covers the USB port. You can't charge the device without the cover being partly opened. Honestly, if I wasn't carrying the ereaders around to different places, I don't know if I would bother with a cover.
