A collection of short stories, many very dark in tone. Some are lightly touched with the supernatural; some are concerned with death and murder; but many are simply stories of the mysteries of the human heart.

Dora Maria Sigerson Shorter (16 August 1866 – 6 January 1918) was an Irish poet, writer, and sculptor. She was politcally active, taking part in uprisings and demonstrations of the Irish revolution in the 1910’s. (It has been suggested that she died of “a broken heart” over the killings of Irishmen in the Easter 1916 uprising.)
