Good catch! I'll do some digging later and see if I can find any hints. My first wild guess (take this with a large pinch of salt) is that it's probably either a new reader plugin (remember that the formats are implemented as plugins internally) or it's where the bluealsa stuff went.
OTOH, it's not surprising they're having issues if the
environment variable they're using is wrong...
Edit: Not directly related, but while taking a quick look, I noticed that there's a `com.kobo.nickel.PluginInterface3` (and `PluginInterface2` was removed) since 15190.
