A really fantastic book, The Taste of Empire: How Britain's Quest for Food Shaped the Modern World by Lizzie Collingham is currently $3.99, regularly $20.99, at Amazon and presumably elsewhere, as it’s Hachette. It’s pretty much exactly what the title implies, a history of the British empire as seen through the prism of food. Highly recommended.
