You have two choices. You an size covers for the Kindle you have now or you can size covers for future proofing so if you ever get a hi-res device be it a new Reader or a tablet. you'll have covers properly sized.

What I do is take any cover with more then 1600 lines and reduce it to 1600 lines keeping the correct aspect ratio. I do this using Calibre's eBook editor. It means that I have a cover that's not too large and one that's large enough for hi-res screens.

if you want to have covers just fo your current Kindle, you can size them to 1024 lines (it's always good to be slightly larger then the screen's resolution).
