Highlighting a word while reading on an amazon kindle pops up a window with the dictionary entry for that word and a menu with an option to open the dictionary as a book. The dictionary opens at the page for the word that dictionary popup was for. At that point you can page back and forth in the dictionary and return to what you were reading when you are finished with the dictionary. You can also highlight word in the dictionary and pop up the definitions for those.
