Dan Billany's novel/memoir The Cage might be public domain by now, but perhaps there are special rules there.

Billany was a successful novelist who was captured in Italy in WWII. He escaped from his POW camp, and attempted to cross the Apennines to the Allied lines, but he was never seen again after December 20th 1943. It was assumed he died in crossing the mountains in winter.

The book was controversial at the time as Dan co-authored the book with his lover, David Dowie, who was imprisoned with him and disappeared at the same time.
