I'm really NOT trying to be an "ugly American" here... But I was very surprised throughout my travels around this globe (sorry flat-earthers I'm living proof the world is round

) at how many people were familiar with English...and not just in passing, but able to make themselves understood. They were WAY more adept at English than I was at their language. The big thing about that statement is that I've been to 150+ countries on 6 continents (still trying to get Antarctica but the chances are looking dim) and in EVERY one of them the people we came into contact with were at least somewhat proficient in English. That blew my mind! I know that doesn't mean EVERYONE understands English, but those involved with commerce, travel, computers, etc. all could make themselves understood....and could certainly understand "January", "March", etc.
Also, we aren't talking requirements here. We are talking "preferences". My
preference is for "dd mmm yyyy". I'll let the next generation try and force all the different countries to adopt the ISO standard....but I think it should get in line
behind universal adoption of the metric system, and (a fixed version of) ePub as the only book format!!
