"they would get jumbled and become
1, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 2, 20, 21, et ---< this sequence."
It's already boring but i can imaging the frustration you have for your sequence.
Why the pocket book can't do like windows (normal way) 1,2,3,4,5,...9,10,11,12,...19,20,21,22,...
