Am I aware of of the ambiguity in many translations from Chinese?

In simplified Chinese, the glyph 鼠 can be translated as either rat or mouse whereas in traditional Chinese, 鼠 is rat and 老鼠 is mouse though I find concatenating old and rat to make mouse a bit odd.
