Nothing as far as I can see. Calibre has never automatically updated the book when you edit the metadata. If you edited the metadata and immediately opened the book in the viewer, you would not see the changes that you just made. You have always had to do something to update the book format. This has been a topic of discussion for a long time.

Or have I misunderstood what the problem is?
