The differences between a kepub and epub are pretty minor mostly involving a mass of added spans. The real difference is that epub files are rendered by Adobe's RMSDK while kepubs are rendered by a webkit based epub3 renderer.

Since you are using calibre, you might want to add the ScrambleEbook plugin, scramble the ebook and then attach it to a message.
