Quick testing update: I bought a drm protected book from ebooks.com and when you click download you get the .acsm file. I have Bluefire reader on my iPad, so opening the acsm file in downloads opens the book in Bluefire reader (which is authorised with my Adobe account). You can read it in the Bluefire app or using the share action save the .ePub file to iCloud. It remains to be seen whether it will be enough to just transfer this file then to a Kobo.
