You can install Calibre 4.23. You can use it with the latest Kobo firmware. If you come to Mobileread when a new firmware version is released, you will be able to find the thread about it and you will be able to find out if it's compatible with 4.23.

Also, Calibre 4.23 is compatible with your existing database. Put back 4.23 and your database problems will go away.
