I know that the "repair your account" procedure on the Kobo will probably fix this—but causes the problems I mentioned in the original post, one of the worst problems being that all side-loaded books are erased from the device. Then they have to be manually side-loaded again.
If you simply sign out of your Kobo account and sign back in, does this same unwanted erasure also occur? (I realize that might not repair the account, though.)
