I adjusted my energy saving settings as recommended in the bug report and it didn't seem to improve things. I checked the app yesterday morning when I left home and it was running fine. Then around lunch time I tried to connect to download a new book to my iPad and was unable to connect. When I got home in the evening and checked the app was not running and allI could see in the System Log was: "Dec 31 11:58:24 com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (net.kovidgoyal.calibre.20212[64728]): Service exited due to SIGPIPE | sent by calibre[64728]

I restarted the app and connected successfully. We shall see what the new year brings. Might be time to convert the Mac Mini to Ubuntu.
