Plato manages a certain number of hidden files and directories inside a library, in particular .trash and .thumbnail-previews. The ExcludeSyncFolders pattern that ships with this package might lead Nickel to import files in those directories, since the path of a library is not necessarily the root of the underlying partition and the current pattern only ignores hidden directories of depth one.
Are you sure that .kobo needs to be whilelisted in order for Dropbox to function properly? I couldn't check that myself unfortunately.
