It could be based on the affiliate. These are national so the rules for what can be done would change.

Have you turned on Parental controls? This changes the available options. On my Aura H2O, The data sharing option is disable, but, still there. There might be some other combination of options that interact with this in not that obvious ways. Could you post a screenshot of the settings page? Seeing it might trigger something.

And to check, have you actually registered the device using an account? Or have you bypassed the registration by editing the database?

Other than that, the things I would look at doing are:
  • Manually reinstall the current firmware. That is just in case something went wrong with the update and it was incomplete in some way.
  • Delete the config file and let it be recreated.
  • Sign out of the account and back in. But, before doing this, take a copy of books partition. If this doesn't help, you can restore the copy later.
  • A full factory reset. Not the on from the information page, but from the Developers options or manually. These wipe the root partition as well as the books partition.
