I listen on my Tap all the time using a kind of cheat, and the method would probably work on my Echo and Echo Show as well. I start the book on the Audible app on my smartphone. Wait for things to update, then tell Alexa on my Tap to play Audible. When I'm finished, I return to my smartphone, go to last location read, and bookmark it as a precaution because the system isn't perfect.
