Well, an SD card is quite a bit smaller and lighter than a netbook. So in one case you have [cord plus netbook] and in the other [cord plus SD card]; a clear win in terms of weight and bulk, though I grant you the cord is kind of inconvenient to haul around.

My concern is that 1) I'm not sure it's possible to power the SD card reader through the micro USB end of the cord and 2) I'm not sure the cord is wired up to let you suck data out the micro USB end instead of the standard USB end.
