That's the default paste behavior for the edit box. The color/font appearance doesn't matter--it gets saved as plain text regardless. You'd have to remove the bullet char either way.

Run Calibre in debug mode (under Calibre's Preferences drop down), try again, quit Calibre and post the debug log--assumes it still happens.
