I've tried one of these on my iPhone before and wasn't happy, although that was on the backlit screen, which wouldn't be an issue here. For now, the camo skin (1) hides the scratch; and (2) will protect the Kindle to some extent; so even though I'm not entirely happy with the pattern (though it was the best pick for my purposes out of the choices) it will do the job.

However, I wonder if perhaps a bit of "scratch remover" (really, just filler that hides scratches) combined with an IS (once the scratch is made harder to see) might be the way to go. I am not sure, however, if 'removers' are safe or effective on brushed metal even though I know they've been tried with some success on smooth iPod backs.
