There is a thread discussing this in the Kobo forum. The only solution so far is the is what @DNSB has suggested. I'd expect that it is a problem with all three. But, I'd be pointing the finger Apple. Kobo have never been perfect in the USB support, but, it won't surprise me if Apple have decided that supporting older external devices is not important. They seem to drop support for things a lot quicker than Microsoft.
