Seriously, an ereader is fine for that and your wants are similar to mine. I almost never bother to tether my devices and sideload. This is a hobbyist forum and people can
be fussy have exacting standards. The formatting on public domain downloads is perfectly acceptable for reading in the overwhelming majority of books. Back in the day, there could be issues with Gutenberg books, but it’s been a long time since I’ve run into any.
