Maybe the difference handling it is bigger when using it but on paper the size difference does not see so big and 1cm thicker at one end I assume can be annoying.
I had thought about buying a netbook but having one that is nearly the same size as my laptop then I can just continue using my laptop.

Your laptop is fine, although more than an inch wider, and there would be no reason for you to replace it with a netbook. You have a dual core processor and none of the netbooks have anything approaching that. This is one reason your battery life is poorer as well as backlight technology.
Today you can't get XP new on anything but a netbook but you already have it. Until Windows 7 there is nothing better on the market IMHO.
