Sams almost surely tests new product lines in select stores before a nation wide rollout if it is a whole new category of product. I work for a retailer and we do the same thing. Even to stock 800 stores with 20 kindles each would tie up over $4 million in Sams cash reserves. Even if Amazon lets them return them after a few months, that is still $4 million in cash they didn't have access too for that time. They would be fools not to test it in select stores first. The fact that they sell well on Amazon.com (so we are told, have we seen any true numbers?) does not mean they will sell great in a warehouse environment.
