I read "les bienveillantes" when it was first published and
enjoyed appreciated it thouroughly (OK : I would have ditched 90 pages I think).
Among the turmoil about it in France & elsewhere, I think eveybody missed an obvious (to me) source --and a great book
per se--
"Kaputt" by Kurzio Malaparte. Actual souvenirs of an italian War Correspondent on the eastern front during WWII--so: from the German side; Highly recommended. (of course, the Concentration camps are not present in Malaparte).
