Do I need the newest Calibre to get the update?
I only got a November update.

Yes, this option is checked and "update epub if new chapters".
I can only say that I have several duplicated books in my lib.
I know that I had them multiple times in the Downloader, but that shouldn´t be a problem as it wasn´t with others either.
The only difference is that they have a different save Path.
I have just tested it with some books and it behaves correctly, as it only collects their metadata, but does not download them since they are already there.
