So the package version of Sigil is behaving as expected when the maintainer de-bundles the spellcheck dictionaries and relies on system dictionaries instead. All you should need to do is install the additional dictionaries you want using the MX package manager.

Thanks so much for your time trying out, I just installed using the Popular Apps tab, which contains an older version, upgraded to newer one and installed the dictionaries as indicated. Your help is much appreciated.
