It would really be wrong for them to do that since some people have really old pc's. Mine is going to be 11 years old next year, I'm still using Windows 7, unless the pc craps out, I don't intend to get a new pc.

You also will want to run the batch program in
this post (basically replaces the update in the roaming file with a blank doc). I had the auto update box unchecked and it updated anyway. Wrong or not, that's what Amazon in doing.
ETA: I'm not the techiest of people, so if you want to know exactly what it does, they explain the thread.
I am also on Windows 7 on this PC, only because I can't afford to replace to all of the software I use on it. I do have a Windows 10 laptop I could put Calibre on if I absolutely have to.
