I always connect to the USB 2.0 ports with the readers, it's been much more reliable. Like you, I've had have issues using the USB 3.0 with the readers at times. Fortunately I have plenty of USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports on my PC, so I can avoid those issues without a hassle.
