I wouldn't be so sure of that. It would be very bad publicity, but it's surprising the amount of abuses customers will put up with in the name of convenience. Having said that, I agree it's safe to sideload your own content to your kindle. Even if you connect your Kindle to the internet, Amazon has zero interest in monitoring what you upload to it. Doing that on a wide scale would require huge resources to investigate the origin of the content, with no benefit for Amazon. In fact, negative benefit, since the negative publicity would be huge.
