Mostly irrelevant, but some things are wonky on unregistered devices, and, it's a Kindle, so it's pretty gimped all on its own when unregistered.
(i.e., Probably better to register it... when the JB is done, as @ilovejedd explains below).

Yep! (By which I mean, you're safe (as of right now: this may no longer apply on the *next* release), but the updates are still terribly evil, so I'd still recommend steering clear of 'em).

Not in the least ;p. It will allow you to run KOReader, though, which will probably be better to handle self-rolled CBZ or some such. Also, PDFs.
