Thanks! After that hiccup, it has all gone surprisingly smoothly and I have KUAL and MRPI installed. Best of all, Librerator is working and is a marked improvement on the old interface (or, for that matter, the interface on my Kindle PW2 which is unfortunately on 5.12.2 so it can't be jailbroken - another reminder that I gotta be careful with non-libre HW/SW which I avoid if not unreasonably inconvenient).

I had to go through a few frustrating hoops resetting the date with kindletool so that KUAL actually worked (not least of which was that the setdate tool didn't use the unix epoch) but I learnt a bit in the process so it is all good. Kudos to all the developers here - also Amazon for creating really good hardware given that this DXG now is 10 years old and working great except for the battery but it is a real bummer that they then go on to cripple the device.

I was almost going to splurge for a Onyx Note 3 or Note Air for a big screen PDF reading experience but this has saved me some decent money and the DXG didn't end up in some recycling bin too.

P.S. : Are there any other apps that you would particularly suggest?
