The smart clock may actually be better if you're wanting it to show you the time while the lights are off, as neither device appears to have an AMOLED screen. Those allow
only the lit pixels to be turned on, so all the black is true black. Other screen types have to light up at least the black area around the clock display, so the black is emitting light. This isn't all that noticeable in a lit room, but in a dark bedroom it can be like staring into the sun.
A smaller screen is better in that scenario, since there's fewer pixels to emit light.
