Played with this. I like it, I think, although I don't use annotations a lot.
I greatly like tapping on highlights rather than longpress -- wish it worked in epubs too.
I tried adding ShowNoteIndicators=false to both Reading and ReadingSettings and it had no effect, icon still showed up, so maybe that's not related?
