I hate to say it, but there was no need to upgrade. If you had read the message that calibre had displayed you would have seen it suggested configuring the Kobo driver to allow unsupported database versions.

Yes, there IS a warning there that it might cause database corruption, but trust me, if that was the case there would have been warnings throughout these forums about the incompatibility.
