Cover Downloader: Why does Google Images sometimes get such weird results?

I know that the Google Image plugin depends on whatever Google Images digs up, but it's pretty funny to be downloading covers for my physical books and have some relatively obscure fantasy novel bring up a high-res photograph of a farm tractor. Or rarely stuff that seems to be pushing the limits of safesearch (though, tbh, there's a lot of book covers that do that too...)

So mostly out of curiosity: what kind of query does the Google Images plugin actually give to the search engine?
